Don Patterson is a nationally recognized watercolorist. He has exhibited in museums and galleries from coast to coast and in Japan and Canada. He is a consistent award winner in regional, national and international juried exhibitions.
Patterson has been elected to membership in the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society and is an Honorary Life Member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, where he has served for seventeen years on the Board of Directors. He is also listed in the Millennium Edition of Who's Who in America.
Don Patterson was featured in the December 1987 issue of American Artists Magazine and on PBS Television's "Outdoor Pennsylvania" in 1988. In 1990 he was selected a winner in American Artists Magazine competition "Preserving Our Natural Resources". He was also featured in the December 1990 issue of U.S. Art Magazine. He was one of ninety top American watercolorists chosen for Splash II, Splash IV and Splash V published by North Light. He was also featured in the Artist's Magazine's special issue called Watercolor Magic. His articles "Drawing with Paint" and "Getting the Light Right" appear in the Spring, 1995 and May, 1998 issues of Watercolor Magic and The Artist's Magazines respectively.
In 1997 Don Patterson's work was selected for three books by Rockport Publishers: "Best of Watercolor 2", Painting Light and Shadow" and "Painting Texture". He is one of nine artists who collaborated on a book titled "The Many Moods of Light" published by North Light in January 1999. He has written his own book titled "Creating Watercolor Landscapes Using Photographs" published by North Light in May 2000. In 2001 he collaborated with twenty artists on another North Light book titled "Keys to Painting Trees and Foliage".
In October of 2000 Don received the Best of Show award for the 100th Anniversary Exhibition of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. He also received the PWCS Award for Outstanding Service to the Society. He was awarded the Silver Medal for his painting "Queen Bee" in The Baltimmore Watercolor Society's 2001 Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition.
